18 December 2013 - Volunteers from the Viet Love Foundation, Premiere Production and Vietnamese Artists Overseas came together to organize and to host a benefit concert for victims of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) entitled “Viet Love for the Philippines & Vietnam” on December 15. The proceeds of the concert will be donated to the American Red Cross.
Consul General Ma. Hellen Barber De La Vega was invited to speak during the event about effects of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), priority needs of the victims and plan for rehabilitation. Members of the Viet Love Foundation said they want to help the Philippines in appreciation for the assistance that the Philippine Government extended to Vietnamese refugees before they were re-settled in a third country, including the U.S.
The event was also covered by VietFace TV (VFTV). During an in interview with VFTV, Consul General De La Vega thanked the Vietnamese Community for their solidarity and returning the compassion to the Filipino nation recalling the humanitarian gesture of the Philippines to receive the Vietnamese refugees during the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan of Action for Vietnamese Boat People in the 80s. The Vietnamese-Americans are now extending relief efforts to the typhoon victims in the Philippines.
Consul General De La Vega extended sincere appreciation in behalf of the typhoon victims and survivors for the overwhelming concern and generosity being extended by the Vietnamese and Vietnamese-American community in the United States. END
