Vientiane

19 December 2013 - The Filipino community in Laos, through the International Technology Management Corporation (Intem) as represented by its President, Dr. Bernadette Gonzales, organized a “DINE FOR A CAUSE” event last Friday, December 06, at Mercure Hotel in Vientiane, Laos to benefit the victims of super typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in the Philippines.

Ambassador Maria Lumen B. Isleta, in her remarks, commended the Filipino Community (FilCom) organizers for their dedication and hard work in spearheading the event.  She also thanked the members of the Filipino and international communities as well as the Lao Government officials and diplomatic corps members who supported the cause to help rebuild the lives and futures of the victims of the Typhoon Haiyan tragedy.

Dr. Gonzales, as lead organizer, expressed her appreciation to all volunteers and donors/sponsors of the event, particularly the Lao artists, Mercure Hotel and FilCom members.  She also shared the story of “Sky Has Fallen” – a story of reaching out.

The highlight of the event is the auction of four paintings donated by acclaimed Lao National Artist Thep Thavonsouk and reputable M Gallery Lao artists Mr. Sivilay Souvannasing, Mr. Mick Saylom and Ms. Marissa Darasavath.

To cap the program, a song composed by Mr. Manny Reniva entitled “Reaching Out” was sung by FilCom members led by Mr. Jack Durano.

The guests enjoyed the dinner prepared by Mercure Hotel as well as the program led by the FilCom members. The Dine for a Cause event raised more than US$ 10,000. All proceeds will go to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).  END
