23 December 2013 - The newly-established OFW Kapitbisig Foundation sent total amount of US$971.00 and ten boxes of relief goods to the Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) victims through the GMA Kapuso Foundation, Inc. and Sagip Kapamilya Warehouse. The donations were collected last November 17, during an impromptu concert held to raise funds and collect donations in kind for the victims of the super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in central Philippines. The concert was held at the St. Francis Parish Church basketball court in Hamra.
The Foundation, a conglomeration of 16 Filipino community organizations and groups in Lebanon, was established on November 17. As reflected in its goals and objectives, it aims to promote friendship and unity and to extend humanitarian assistance.
Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz led Embassy, Philippine Overseas Labor Office/Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) officers and staff in gracing the concert. In her brief remarks, she commended the various Filipino association and individuals for their support and assistance to the victims of the super typhoon and underscored the “bayanihan” spirit that is well and alive among Filipinos in Lebanon especially in this time of crisis.
