09 January 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Guam received on January 07 a check donation amounting to US$14,150 from the United Filipino Organizations (UFO) in Saipan for the benefit of Filipinos affected by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in the Philippines.
The said amount represents donations gathered from various companies during UFO's campaign for relief efforts in the disaster-affected areas. Among these generous companies is the Saipan World Resort Hotel which donated US$12,250.00, which is comprised of the US$2,250 contributions of the hotel employees and matched by the US$10,000.00 donation from the hotel management. The Immanuel Methodist Church, a Korean group, donated US$1,500.00 while US$400.00 was donated by Jet Holdings Company.
Witnessing the turnover of the check were Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian, Consul Maria Paz G. Cortes and Collecting Officer Emerita Marquez.
Mr. Mayuga informed the Consulate that through the leadership of its President, Ms. Annamae Adaza, the UFO was also able to collect donations from various groups, individuals and companies in Saipan amounting to US$11,184.64 from November to December 2013. Said amount was donated by the UFO last December to the Sagip Kapamilya Foundation of ABS-CBN Network. In addition, UFO was able to send 401 balikbayan boxes of typhoon relief goods through the LBC Foundation.
Consul General Mangibin commended and thanked the UFO for its great initiative and support for the typhoon Yolanda victims in the Philippines. He also expressed appreciation to all individuals, groups and private companies in Saipan for their kind donations and assistance. END
