13 January 2014 - The Japan Club of Guam donated a check in the amount of US$ 6,219.84 to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for the benefit of the victims of the super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
Mr. Etsuo Moriya, President of the Nanbo Insurance Underwriters and of the Japan Club of Guam, together with the Honorable Hisatsugu Shimizu of the Japanese Consulate General in Guam called on Philippine Consul General Bayani V. Mangibin on January 10 to present the said check donation.
Joining them in the simple turn-over ceremony were Mr. Toshio Matsumura, Deputy Consul General of Japan, Mr. Mikiya Fukumoto and Ms. Maho Quinene, both members of the Board of Directors of the Japan Club of Guam, and Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian.
Consul General Shimizu expressed that having experienced similar devastation during the disasters which hit his country in 2011, Japan fully understands the present situation of the Philippines. He hopes that the Filipino people will remain united and overcome the situation.
In reply, Consul General Mangibin expressed his deep appreciation for the kind expression of solidarity and support of the Japan Club of Guam and of Japan. He noted that Japan is one of the countries that have given the biggest donations for the typhoon Yolanda victims. END
