27 February 2014 – A simple and meaningful commemoration of the 28th Anniversary of the EDSA Revolution of 1986 was held at the Philippine Embassy on Tuesday, February 25. 

The program organized by the Embassy was well-attended by members of their families and the Filipino community.  It started with the traditional flag-raising ceremony and recitation of oath of allegiance to the Philippine flag, followed by the delivery of EDSA Day message of Ambassador to Bangladesh Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo.

In his message, Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Bandillo discussed the value and importance of remembering the victory of the EDSA People Power Revolution, saying that  it is not just looking at some old photographs kept in an album, but involves being engaged in service and unity, and sacrificing for the recovery and development of our country.

 The program continued with the giving of EDSA Day pledges  by which everyone in attendance wrote on  a big tarp with the question, “Anong taya mo para sa Pilipinas natin?” printed on it.  Its aim is to join in the initiative of the EDSA People Power Commission to create a collection of pledges from concerned Filipino citizens on how they can contribute to the progress of the Philippines.

Some pledges from members of the Filipino community were:

“Patuloy na pagsulong sa galing at tapat na paglilingkod upang makilala ang Filipino bilang mga mahuhusay na mamamayan.” – Mr. Charles Villanueva, PhD

“Ipagpatuloy ang diwa ng EDSA sa pamamagitan ng pagtulong sa mga kababayan dito sa Bangladesh at Pilipinas.” – Mr. Augusto Sison

“Palakihing makatao, makabayan, at proud Filipino ang mga anak ko.” – Ms. Ana Hufemia

“Ako isip usa ka Pilipino kun tagaan ug higayon nga pugngan ang sobra nga pamulitika, ug atubangon ang tino-od nga problema sa nasud Pilipinas ug palamboon ang industriya ma haw-as na sa ka lisod ang tanang kabus sa Pilipinas.” – Mr. Cris Guba

A Filipino breakfast consisting of tapsilog, pandesal and beef pares was served to the delight of everyone at the celebration.

The program ended with the screening of the inspiring documentary film about the Last Journey of Ninoy Aquino Jr.     END
