03 March 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles commemorated the 28th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution with the theme “Kapit Bisig Tungo Sa Pagbangon” with a mass and a feature presentation on the Peace Project held at the Community Hall of the Consulate General on February 25. 

In her remarks, Consul General Maria Hellen Barber De La Vega emphasized the theme of EDSA People Power Revolution.  She stated that it is auspicious that President Benigno Aquino decided to celebrate EDSA commemoration in Cebu, in the areas of devastation; and that the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles is also marking the EDSA anniversary with a presentation on a project that aims to assist in the rehabilitation of one of the affected areas in Cebu.

The Consulate General also had a mini-exhibit that displayed various images of EDSA People Power Revolution and the Relief Assistance efforts for Typhoon Haiyan.

The first half of the program commenced with a short video presentation on the EDSA People Power Revolution, followed by the celebration of Holy Mass led by Fr. Albert Avenido.

In the second half of the program Ms. Lisa Schultz, Founder of the Peace Project Organization presented its project called, “OPERATION REACH OUT”.  The Peace Project will partner with citizens of Tabunok, Sante Fe on Bantayan Islands in Cebu to rebuild their community affected by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).  Their aim is to construct 56 houses and a community center with a plan to build 150 houses in the coming six months. Ms. Schultz explained that each house will cost $500.00 to build.  The prospective donor can sponsor one family in Sta. Fe to whom the house will be awarded.
