07 March 2014- In commemoration of the 28th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva undertook activities in line with the simplicity espoused by the Aquino Administration.
The meaningful commemoration included a flag ceremony, a month-long film showing of "Puso at Diwa ni Ninoy" at the Consular Section, and distribution of a pamphlet which featured the chronology of EDSA and a lead-up to the Revolution. Commemorative activities culminated in a celebratory mass on February 28.
The Mission also featured a wall entitled, "Images from the Greatest Democracy ever told: EDSA REVOLUTION, " which in the words of Movement for Peace and Justice Founder Jose Blanco S.J., “The world is best reconstructed by valuing people and human lives, by reaching out in joy and dialogue. That is the Filipino people power. This will be our contribution to human progress and peace.”
Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Cecilia Rebong initiated the commemoration to capture the true essence of EDSA People Power and how its lessons could be used to inspire Filipinos today and in the future.
As President Benigno S. Aquino stated in his 2013 statement showcased in the pamphlet: “Ang rebulusong nagsauli ng demokrasya ay siya ring inspirasyon natin ngayon upang ideretso and pag-asenso’t pag-arangkada…. Karapatan nating sumulong at umasenso.” END
