12 June 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Myanmar celebrated the 116th Anniversary of Philippine Independence with the Filipino Community on June 08 in Yangon.
The Independence Day gathering was a celebration of Filipino music with performances from the members of This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., the organization of Filipinos in Myanmar, and Los Caballeros, the singing soldiers from the Philippines.
The highlight of the gathering was the Los Caballeros’ performance of the hit songs of Apo Hiking Society. Ms. Shen Nebre, a music teacher, gave a heartwarming rendition of Bayan Ko and Mr. Danny Te and Ms. Grace Clavecillas of the Philippine Embassy entertained the crowd with Ang Pipit.
In his opening speech, Ambassador Alex G. Chua, said “Overseas Filipinos in Myanmar are modern-day heroes assisting in the development of both Myanmar and the Philippines. Filipinos contribute to the reform process in Myanmar as educators, managers and specialists for the United Nations (UN) and international non-governmental organizations (INGO).”
Philippine companies in Myanmar, Liwayway Corporation, United Pharma, and Asia Brewery, supported the Independence Day gathering of the Filipino community in Myanmar. END
