18 June 2014 - Filipino business and community leaders converged at the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai on June 12, to celebrate the 116th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
In simple ceremonies, Philippine Consul General Wilfredo R. Cuyugan extolled the virtues of Filipino heroes who fought for Philippine independence; the same virtues that inspire Filipinos abroad, including in Shanghai and the nearby provinces, to continue with economic and cultural activities that contribute to growth in economies and improved relations between the Philippines and other countries of the world.
Being new to Shanghai, the Consul General expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the Filipino community for the support they readily give to the Consulate General and the peoples of the Philippines at all times. He assured them of the commitment and quality of service of officials and staff of the Consulate General and the attached agencies in the execution of the Philippine Government’s policies and programs.
In celebration of the event, Ms. Belinda F. Judge led the singing of the national anthem and the pledge to the Philippine flag, Ms. Luzviminda van Opstal read the message of the President of the Philippines, Philippine Musicians and Artists in Shanghai sang kundiman songs, and members of the community shared a traditional Filipino breakfast.
