19 June 2014- To commemorate the 116th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Paris, together with the leaders of the Filipino community in France, started the celebrations with a flag-raising ceremony at the Chancery.
Ambassador Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro welcomed everyone with President Benigno S. Aquino III’s message reminding Filipinos that “this commemoration of our ancestor’s heroism is not a portion of our country’s glorious and exciting narrative but also a reminder that we are our nation’s steward of peace, equality, and prosperity” and “that we remain united, like our forebears more than a hundred years ago, in working for a more robust, equitably progressive Republic.”
Minister and Consul General Deena Joy D. Amatong also conveyed the message of Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario who noted the Philippines’ economic growth and consistent advocacy to the rule of law, and praised the indomitable and resilient Filipino spirit.
To cap the simple but meaningful event and in keeping with the custom of sharing and breaking bread together, members of the Filipino community and Embassy personnel took the opportunity to discuss various issues of interest while enjoying a traditional Filipino breakfast. END
