19 June 2014 - In the morning of June 12, officers and personnel of the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok assembled at the Embassy grounds for a flag-raising ceremony and reading of the National Day messages of the President and Foreign Affairs Secretary in commemoration of the 116th Anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence.
On the same day, a Philippine Special National Day supplement featuring Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia’s National Day message, an article on the Philippine economy, and greetings of felicitations from Philippine and Thai companies and associations also came out in the Bangkok Post and Naew Na newspapers. The companies and associations include San Miguel Beer (Thailand) Limited, Monde Nissin Corporation, Great Eastern Drug Co. which distributes Decolgen in Thailand, EGCO Group, Goldilocks Bake Shop, Thai Sky NTT Tours Co., Ltd. for Cebu Pacific, and International Women’s Club of Thailand.
Bangkok Post is Thailand’s oldest and leading English-language newspaper, while Naew Na is a major Thai language newspaper. Both papers are distributed nationwide. This is the second time that the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok has arranged for the publication of the National Day supplement in a Thai language newspaper, the first having been published in the same newspaper (Naew-Na) last year.
The National Day supplements also contained announcements about the Embassy’s Philippine Fair (or Sanook Philippines) which was held from June 12 to 15 at the Central World shopping mall in Bangkok, and the Department of Trade and CITEM’s Manila Fame ( to be held on October 16 to 19 this year at the SMX Convention Centre), Design Week Philippines (to be held on October 13 to19), and IFEX (May 21 to 24, 2015 at the SMX Convention Center).
On June 12, Ambassador Batoon-Garcia’s recorded National Day greeting for the people of the Kingdom of Thailand and the general public was also aired over Radio Thailand FM channels 88.0. and 95.5 and AM channel 918. The Ambassador’s National Day message was also simultaneously posted on the Embassy’s official website and Facebook page.END
