20 June 2014- The Filipino community in Macau celebrated the 116thAnniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence in ceremonies organized by the Philippine Consulate General on June 12.  The event started with a wreath-laying at the bust of Dr. Jose Rizal and a flag-raising ceremony in the Consulate premises.

Consul and Acting Head of Post Pete Raymond V. Delfin read the Message of President Benigno S. Aquino III while Vice-Consul Ira Micheline R. Valdez read the messages of Vice President Jejomar C. Binay and Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rodario.  Labor Attaché Vivian F. Tornea delivered the Message of Secretary of Labor and Employment Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz.

 

In line with the theme “PagsunodsaYapak ng mgaDakilang Pilipino, TungosaMalawakan at PermanentengPagbabago,” members of the Filipino youth in Macau recited Andres Bonifacio’s “Pag-ibigsaTinubuangLupa” and the Macau Sam Yuk Middle School Primary Choir performed the nationalistic song “DakilangLahi.”

 

The book “The Only True Eye” by Macau-based Filipino poet Papa Osmubal was launched during the celebration with a reading of selections by Prof. Jose Javier R. Cuervo of the University of Macau and Ms. Evella Crewe of the Brito School. 

 

The event ended with a breakfast prepared by the Consulate General where everyone enjoyed traditional Filipino dishes. END
