23 June 2014 - Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua led the commemoration of the 116th Anniversary of Philippine Independence in a diplomatic reception held on June 2014 in Yangon.
In an effort to promote the Philippines, the diplomatic reception featured an exhibit of Philippine agriculture products and major tourist destinations. Philippine cuisine, along with Philippine fruit juices, liqueurs, wines, and rhum, was served with accompanying Philippine classics performed by Los Caballeros, the singing soldiers from the Philippines.
The diplomatic reception was honored by the presence of H.E. U Wunna Maung Lwin, Foreign Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and Daw Lynn Lynn Tin, wife of the Foreign Minister. The Tatmadaw, Myanmar Armed Forces, participated in a diplomatic reception for the first time by sending General Hla Htay Win, Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air Force) accompanied by wife, Daw Mar Mar Wai.
