23 June 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in Budapest celebrated the 117th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence at the Pesti Vigadó, one of Budapest’s most prestigious concert halls.
The event was highlighted with a much-applauded cultural performance by the National Dance Company of the Philippines, the Bayanihan, wherein the rich and diverse culture of Filipinos were communicated in just over an hour’s dances, music and songs. The performance was followed by a diplomatic reception which was attended by high-ranking Hungarian Government officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, the international business sector and the Filipino community.
The reception featured Philippine products, foremost among these were San Miguel beer, mango rhum and mango juice, pili and dried mangoes, which were greatly appreciated by guests. The reception was a fusion of both Philippine delicacies and Hungarian gastronomy with guests partaking of a traditional Filipino fare of chicken adobo, pancit and cassava cake.
In her remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Hungary Eleanor L. Jaucian accentuated the Philippines’ position as one of the fastest-growing economies in Southeast Asia which has been achieved because of sound economic management; the commitment of leaders which focuses on inclusive growth for Filipinos and the admirable resilience and optimistic spirit of the Filipino people.
The Ambassador likewise acknowledged the commitment of the Philippines and Hungary in further strengthening bilateral relations through the re-establishment of the Hungarian Embassy in Manila during the first quarter of 2016. END
