26 June 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou hosted a national day reception on June 12 at the Grand Ballroom of the Garden Hotel Guangzhou in celebration of the 117th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and the 40th Anniversary of Philippines-China Diplomatic Relations, with Deputy Secretary General of Guangdong Provincial People’s Government Lin Ji, and Deputy Secretary General of Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government Zhou Ling, as Guests of Honor.
Philippine Consul General to Guangzhou Raly L. Tejada, in his remarks, highlighted the strong economic relations of the Philippines and China through trade, investment and tourism which marked the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Deputy Secretary General Lin Ji, on behalf of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, said in his remarks that he hopes economic and trade collaboration between Guangdong and the Philippines would reach a new level through the 21st Maritime Silk Road which is a platform for more collaboration in other areas of cooperation such as agriculture, fishery, mineral exploration, and infrastructure, to name a few.
The highlight of the event was the official launch of the Colors of Freedom exhibit where all eight stations were put on display during the reception. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was done by Consul General Tejada and the Guests of Honor to launch the exhibit.
Filipino foods such as adobo, kare-kare, pinakbet and ginatan were served at the reception. Guangzhou San Miguel Brewery provided complimentary beers while giveaways for the guests were provided by Liwayway (China) Co. Ltd.
The event was attended by Chinese government officials, members of the Consular Corps, Chinese media, Chinese travel and tourism agencies, academic and business sector, and members of the Filipino community.
An Overseas Voting Registration booth was also set up during the event and assisted guests who have not yet availed of the OV registration. END
