CHED Delegation Explores Gender Mainstreaming in Laos

27 July 2017, VIENTIANE, LAOS — A delegation from the Commission on Higher Education visited Vientiane, Laos from July 12 to 13 2017 to inform the Lao Government of the conduct of the ASEAN Conference on Mainstreaming Gender and Development (GAD) in Higher Education that will be held on October 5 to 6 in Manila. The delegation was led by President of Quirino State University in Quirino province Dr. Samuel O. Benigno
During visit, the CHED delegation met with Vice Minister of the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES) and Chairperson of the Women’s Improvement Program of the Ministry Associate Prof. Dr. Khamphay Sisavanh, and Director General of the MOES’s Department of Higher Education Associate Prof. Dr. Saykhong Saynasine.
The delegation discussed the ASEAN Conference with the Education officials and extended an invitation to the MOES to participate in the meeting.
The delegation and the Lao officials also exchanged views on the status of gender in their respective countries and their governments’ initiatives in promoting gender mainstreaming in higher education. They also took note of the importance of gender equality within the ASEAN framework as this would further help the organization achieve the ASEAN Integration.
The CHED delegation also visited the National University of Laos (NUoL) to exchange views on gender mainstreaming with Philippine HEIs, and to inform the NUoL of the ASEAN conference. The NUoL welcomed the development and will work closely with CHED in promoting gender mainstreaming in the ASEAN.
