PHL Embassy in Vientiane Hosted a Financial Literacy Workshop in cooperation with CARD MRI

30 October 2017 VIENTIANE — The Philippine Embassy in Vientiane, Lao PDR, in cooperation with the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI), hosted a Financial Literacy Workshop for the Filipino Community in Laos at the Embassy premises on October 21. Ms. Lousel Cortes of CARD MRI facilitated the workshop which was attended by 50 Filipino Community members.
The topics included Goal Setting wherein the participants are taught to write their goals in a paper; to make it specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time bound. They also discussed the obstacles in saving and the possible solutions for it. Saving tips for OFWs were also provided, such as putting oneself into “saving mode,” the importance of involving loved ones in setting a financial goal, using the formula: income minus savings equals expenses.
The participants also played a budgeting game wherein each group were given a certain amount of money and tasked to allot their money on food, house, utilities, gadgets, education, transportation, insurance and savings. END
