HONOLULU 03 January 2023 -  Consul General Emil Fernandez led the officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu in commemorating the 126th Anniversary of Jose Rizal’s Martyrdom with a flag raising and lei offering ceremony on 29 December 2022  at the Consulate grounds.

This year’s theme is RIZAL: Alaalang Iningatan, Yaman Ngayon ng Bayan (Rizal: Preserved Memories, Treasured Today by the Nation).

Post also launched a letter-writing activity, “Mga Sulat Kay Rizal” (Letters to Rizal) which will run up to his 162nd birth anniversary on 19 June 2023. Students across Hawaii are invited to write letters addressed to Dr. Rizal which will be sent to the Consulate by mail or email. One letter will be featured each month and on June 20, all letters will be posted as a collage and displayed at the Sentro Rizal Honolulu.  With Rizal as their inspiration, Post aims to impart to the youth that Filipinos have world-class talent and their heritage is a source of pride.

Inspired by Rizal’s quote, “the youth is the hope of our future”, the letter-writing activity aims to engage the youth by giving them a platform to share their insights and deepen their awareness and appreciation for Rizal’s works and deeds, as well as promote Filipino representation in Hawaii.
