PH Embassy in Ankara Joins Honorary Consulate General in Tbilisi in Celebrating the 125th Philippine Independence Day and 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Philippine Consulate General in Tbilisi

TBILISI, 16 June 2023 – The Philippine Honorary Consulate General in Tbilisi, Georgia, in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Ankara, Türkiye, hosted about a hundred guests during a reception to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Philippine Independence and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Philippine Honorary Consulate General at Zurab Tsereteli Museum of Modern Art in Rustaveli Ave., Tbilisi, Georgia, on 14 June 2023.
The reception also featured the “Smile, Philippines” Photo Exhibit, a flagship project by the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul. The Embassy showcased sixteen (16) original photos from fifteen (15) Filipino talented photographers of the Camera Club of the Philippines. The photos depict daily life, customs, and traditions in the Philippines. The photo exhibit was organized with the support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture of Georgia.
After the welcome remarks by Consul General a.h. Teimuraz Chichinadze, chargé d’affaires a.i. Juan E. Dayang Jr. delivered his speech, recognizing the thirty (30) years of strong diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Georgia that was established on 21 September 1992. “We hope to continue enhancing our cooperation with Georgia, especially in the fields of trade, tourism, investment, higher education, maritime affairs, and legislative cooperation,” he said.
Chargé d’affaires a.i. Dayang Jr. thanked the Georgian government for its ongoing support for the Filipino community in Georgia. He also acknowledged the dedicated work of Consul General Chichinadze in serving the needs of the Filipino community and supporting Philippine interests.
The Embassy presented a Plaque of Appreciation to Mr. Chichinadze in recognition of his twenty (20) years of loyal service as Consul General a.h. of the Philippine Consulate General in Tbilisi and his dedication and commitment to promote and protect the interest of the Philippines and the Filipino people in Georgia.
Chargé d’affaires a.i. Dayang Jr. met officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Georgia including the guest of honor, Mr. Alexander Khvtisiashvili, Deputy Foreign Minister, and Mr. Alexander Nalbandov, Director, Department for Asia and Pacific. He also met a few members of the Filipino community in Georgia, who were glad to be part of the Independence Day celebration. There are currently around forty-one (41) Filipinos who are working and living in Georgia based on the records provided by Tbilisi PCG.
The Philippine Embassy team will undertake a consular mission to render passport services to Filipinos in Georgia, and have an official meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgia. END
