OTTAWA 07 July 2025 — On 12 June 2025, iconic landmarks across Canada illuminated the colors of the Philippine flag in commemoration of the 127th anniversary of Philippine Independence and the Filipino Heritage Month in Canada.

The Ottawa Sign at ByWard Market, Ottawa, Ontario; the Confederation Building in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador; the province House in Halifax, Nova Scotia and and City Hall of Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island, beacons of Canada’s history as a nation, are lit for one day in honor of Filipinos.

It is symbolic of how the Filipino diaspora has become part of Canada’s social fabric, and of the Philippines as one of the country’s long-standing partners. It served a message of unity, inclusion and friendship.

The event was made possible through the Philippine Embassy’s partnerships with the municipal and provincial stakeholders as well as the Filipino-Canadian communities from the capital to the maritimes. END
