16 September 2016 — Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto R. Yasay, Jr.  received on September 13 the open letter of credence of Ambassador-Designate József Bencze of Hungary. 

During the meeting, Secretary Yasay and Ambassador-Designate Bencze briefly discussed the many aspects of Philippines-Hungary bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on economic and educational cooperation and increasing high-level political exhanges. Secretary Yasay warmly welcomed the re-opening of the Hungarian Embassy in Manila as an important milestone in Philippine-Hungary relations. 

Ambassador-Designate Bencze, the first resident Hungarian Ambassador in Manila since 1995, was a former Police High Commissioner and Director General for Enforcement of the Hungarian Customs and Finance Guard. END
