30 June 2016 — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Regional Consular Office (RCO) La Union, with the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Region 1, headed by its Regional Director Melchito M. Castro, conducted an Earthquake Preparedness Orientation on June 20.

Resource speakers from the OCD were Mr. Elvis R. Quitalig, Chief of the Capacity Building Section and Ms. Ma. Criselda G. Abrajano, Chief Rehabilitation Management Section.

Mr. Quitalig presented and discussed about earthquakes, the stages of earthquake drills, what to do during an earthquaken and the stages of the conduct of actual drill.

The lecture was followed by a dry run to ensure all the processes will be carried out in the event of an earthquake.

After the dry run, all participants actively participated in the simulation of earthquake evaluation drill.  The speakers as well as Regional Director Castro evaluated the group’s simulation. Given the short lecture and discussion, the group was given a score of 7 (1 being the lowest and 10 the highest) on its dry run. END
