UAE Minister of State for Food Security to Visit PH

25 March 2019 – United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of State for Food Security Mariam Al Mehairi will be in the to the Philippines for a two-day visit starting today to explore cooperation with the Philippines in agriculture and food sciences, particularly in rice, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
The Minister is scheduled to visit the Philippines Rice Research Institute in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, and the International Research Rice Institute in Los Baños, Laguna.
Minister Mehairi is also expected to meet senior officials of the Department of Agriculture (DA) as well as other stakesholders in agribusiness. A welcome dinner will also be hosted by the DA in her honor.
Preparations for the visit are jointly being undertaken by the DFA, DA and the UAE Embassy in Manila. During the visit, she will also be accompanied by Ambassador to the UAE Hjayceelyn M. Quintana.
Minister Mehairi was appointed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in October 2017. Prior to her appointment as Minister, she served as Assistant Undersecretary for Water Resources and Nature Conservation Affairs at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
She received her bachelor and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Rhenish-Westphalian Technical University in Aachen, Germany.
