Stranded Filipino Helicopter Mechanic Finally Makes it Home to General Santos City

GENERAL SANTOS CITY 13 April 2021 – The Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine Embassy in Seoul, South Korea with the assistance of the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers' Affairs (OUMWA) and the Consular Office (CO) in General Santos City, successfully brought home a Filipino helicopter mechanic who got stranded in the high seas of Korea for three months since December 2020.

The repatriate, a retired enlisted personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, sailed home aboard F/V Sein Grace, a Korean-owned cargo vessel, and arrived at the Port of General Santos on 08 April 2021. After disembarkation, he was then escorted to the General Santos City Airport for his flight bound for Pasay City, Manila, his residence.

The repatriation was also made possible with the close coordination of OUMWA and CO Gensan with the Bureau of Immigration, Bureau of Quarantine, Bureau of Customs, Philippine Ports Authority – Port Management Office of General Santos, Philippine Fisheries Development Authority, local government of GenSan, and other private entities.
