German Foreign Minister Embarks on Landmark Visit to Manila on 11 to 12 January 2024

MANILA, 09 January 2024 – German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will undertake an official visit to the Philippines from 11 to 12 January 2024, upon the invitation of Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo.

The visit to the Philippines is part of the German Foreign Minister’s official travel to the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Federal Foreign Minister Baerbock’s trip will mark the first visit by a German Federal Foreign Minister to the Philippines in over a decade.

Foreign Minister Baerbock will meet with Secretary Manalo and call on President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., as well as visit the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) during her brief stay.

The visit will usher in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Germany this year.

Bilateral relations between the Philippines and Germany are characterized by mutual respect, robust cooperation in trade and investment, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and a shared commitment to multilateralism and the rules-based international order. END
