Online Migration Resource Launched by FSI
PASAY 02 May 2024 – The Foreign Service Institute launched on 25 April 2024, an online database on migration matters as the latest project of its Center for International Relations and Strategic Studies (CIRSS). Referenced as “Matters of Migration,” the microsite is envisioned to provide the public with a reliable source of data and information on migration and to share the Philippine experience.
In making migration information more accessible and understandable, the microsite hosts different short informational posters, addressing questions such as “What is migration?” “What are Philippine domestic legislations protecting migrant workers?” and “Which agencies are involved in Philippine migration governance?” Links to relevant provisions are also available for further studies.
The data used to populate the microsite is collated from the semestral Report to Congress submitted by Philippine Foreign Service Posts, as required by Republic Act No. 8042, as amended by Republic Act No. 10022. The FSI Online Resource, “Matters of Migration” is accessible through: fsi.gov.ph/mattersofmigration
The Foreign Service Institute is the training and research office of the Department of Foreign Affairs, created under Presidential Decree No. 1060, as expanded by Republic Act No. 7157. CIRSS handles its research program while the Carlos P. Romulo School of Diplomacy (CPRSD) covers its training activities. Its thematic priorities for the current year are artificial intelligence, Indo-Pacific, migration, blue economy, middle power diplomacy, and the West Philippine Sea.
The Secretary of Foreign Affairs chairs the FSI Board, with the Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), the FSI Director General, the President of the University of the Philippines (UP), and the President of the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) as members. END
