MANILA 01 October 2024 - The DFA Office of International Economic Relations (OIER) collaborated with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to conduct a webinar in two sessions, 17 and 19 September 2024, in order to foster inter-agency collaboration and share valuable insights in promoting PH creative industries through the DFA’s 94 Foreign Service Posts.
OIER invited Director Jo-Dann Darong, Director of DTI’s Bureau of Competitive Development, to speak about the significance of creative industries to the Philippine economy, the celebration of the Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM), latest trends in the industry, as well as challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
In his opening remarks, DFA-OIER Assistant Secretary Paul Vincent L. Uy underscored Republic Act 11904, also known as the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, which identifies the domains of creative industry that do not only enrich the lives of Filipino people with beauty and innovation, but also strengthen the cultural development of the country.
Moreover, he highlighted the economic gains brought by creative industries for the country. “In 2023, the creative economy contributed 7.1% to the country’s GDP, amounting to PHP 1.72 trillion, which represents an increase of 6.8% from the PHP 1.61 trillion recorded value in 2022,” Assec Uy says.
Recognizing the vibrant and dynamic world of the creative industries, the DFA joins the DTI in celebrating the Creative Industries Month this September 2024, with the theme We are a Creative Nation, which encapsulates the idea that creativity is deeply embedded in Philippine society and is a fundamental aspect of its identity.
The webinar was attended by 77 participants during its first day, and 63 on the second. Serving as Moderator for the event is Ms. Marivil V. Valles, Acting Director of the Economic Diplomacy Division of DFA-OIER. END
