MANILA 28 May 2025 – The Rizal Monument was recently illuminated in green in commemoration of Africa Day.
Africa Day, observed annually on May 25, commemorates the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, which has since been succeeded by the African Union (AU) in 2002. The day celebrates the diversity and unity of the African continent and its people.
Also illuminated in green is the façade of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila.
The lighting of the National Monument and the National Museum highlights the partnership and friendship between the Philippines and the individual countries of the African continent.
The AU comprises all countries in the African continent. Its official flag adopts the color green symbolizing African hopes and aspirations. There are six (6) resident African Embassies in the Philippines, namely, Angola, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa.
The lighting was done with the cooperation of the National Parks Development Committee and the National Museum. END
