12 August 2016 - Secretary of Foreign Affairs Perfecto R. Yasay, Jr. leaves today, August 12, for Kuala Lumpur to meet with his Malaysian counterpart, Foreign Minister Dato’ Sri Anifah Haji Aman, as part of the Secretary's introductory visits to ASEAN member countries. The two officials are expected to discuss the current state of bilateral relations and to renew the close ties between the Philippines and Malaysia.
While in Malaysia, Secretary Yasay will participate in the ceremonial launch of the first and formal discussions between the Philippine Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte. Members of the government’s newly-created panel led by Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus G. Dureza and MILF representatives will meet on August 13 to 14 on the implementation of the peace agreements. Last July 2016, President Duterte approved the comprehensive Peace and Development Roadmap (PDR) to guide the implementation of all signed peace agreements and development initiatives in the country.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Yasay will also meet with the Filipino Community in Malaysia in a gathering organized by the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. END
