UNIO CELEB

24 August 2016 — Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)-Office of the United Nations and International Organizations (UNIO) Assistant Secretary Bayani S. Mercado met with United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC) ad interim Lotta Sylwander to discuss preparations for the 2016 celebration of United Nations (UN) Day.

Every year, the Foreign Affairs Secretary and the UNRC in the Philippines co-host the UN Day celebration to showcase decades of PH-UN partnership and friendship, while highlighting some key initiatives in pursuit of common goals.

October 24 has been celebrated internationally as United Nations Day since 1948. The Philippines, one of the founding members, signed the UN Charter in San Francisco on 26 June 1945. The Charter came into force on 24 October 1945. END
