08 February 2017 PALAU – Philippine Ambassador to Australia and designated representative of the Philippines Minda Calaguian-Cruz led the Philippine delegation to the Inauguration Ceremonies of Palau’s President, H.E. Tommy Remengesau, Jr. on January 19 at the National Capitol in the State of Melekeok.

Ambassador Calaguian-Cruz, who previously served as the Philippine non-resident Ambassador to Palau, relayed the congratulatory message of Philippine President Rodrigo R. Duterte to Palau President Remengesau and expressed the desire of the Philippines to further strengthen and enhance bilateral relations between the Philippines and Palau.

In his inaugural address, President Remengesau emphasized its focus on the people, environment and economic development.

During the visit, Ambassador Calaguian-Cruz called on Palau State Minister Billy Kuartei and had productive discussions on opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Calaguian-Cruz also met with several members of the Filipino community in Palau. There are approximately 4,000 Filipinos in Palau. Filipinos in Palau have contributed significantly to Palau’s economy, society, and development.

The Philippines and Palau have maintained close and friendly ties since July 1997. END
