The Philippine Government Extends Humanitarian Assistance to Sri Lanka

07 April 2017 – The Government of the Republic of the Philippines turns over USD100,000 to Sri Lanka as humanitarian assistance to those affected by typhoon “Roanu” in May 2016. The said amount will be used by Sri Lanka to finance a community drinking water program in Aranayaka.
Acting Secretary Enrique Manalo officially turned over the donation to Sri Lanka Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Aruni Ranaraja, at a ceremony today at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). The event was witnessed by Chief Coordinator Leah Ruiz Basinang, Assistant Secretary for Asian and Pacific Affairs Millicent Cruz-Paredes, Assistant Secretary for Fiscal Management Services and other officers of the DFA.
Tropical Storm “Roanu” hit Sri Lanka on May 15, 2016 and caused floods in 22 out of 25 districts of the country. The flooding claimed lives and destroyed a large number of homes and important infrastructure. END
