05 May 2017 PHILIPPINES — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Office of Asian and Pacific Affairs officially launched its latest exhibit entitled “Honed in Tradition: Philippine Weaves” on 03 May 2017.
The exhibit, produced in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), showcases the Philippines’ historical records; Philippine cloth such as abaca reached the Chinese market even before the advent of the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Pamela Louise Manalo said that the exhibit “hopes to highlight the contribution of weaving traditions to the rich tapestry of Philippine heritage and to show how indispensable these fabrics are to the daily life of the Filipino.”
The launch was well-attended by both the government and the private sectors as well as the diplomatic corps. The exhibit will stay on display at the DFA lobby until the following week. END
