ASEAN Leaders Pledge Support for the Youth

04 May 2017 MANILA – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, together with the nine (9) Leaders from the ASEAN Member States, emphasized the important role of the youth in ASEAN community-building during the 30th ASEAN Summit in Manila on April 29.
The Leaders expressed their highest assurances of support for the five priority areas of the ASEAN Work Plan on Youth 2016-2020 to encourage (1) youth entrepreneurship, (2) youth employment, (3) youth awareness, (4) youth volunteerism, and (5) youth resilience during their annual Interface with the youth representatives of ASEAN.
With the theme “ASEAN Workplan for the Youth: Transcending Regional Boundaries”, the Youth Representatives highlighted the full potential and collaborative efforts of the youth in the formulation of relevant policies by offering their strong commitment and service to work for a better ASEAN community.
Usec. Cariza Y. Seguerra, head of the Philippine Youth Delegation, delivered the consolidated statement of the youth representatives during the Interface. “On behalf of the ASEAN Youth, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the ASEAN leaders for engaging the youth, tapping their highest potential in ASEAN community building, and addressing their needs in committing to the youths’ voices be heard on all levels,” he said.
DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo, chair of the Council of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, was also present during the said Interface. END
