ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meet for the 30th ASEAN Summit in Manila
MANILA, 28 April 2017 – Acting Secretary Enrique A. Manalo chaired the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Council Meeting, and the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) Meeting at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila on April 28.
During the AMM and APSC Council Meetings, the Foreign Ministers exchanged views on further enhancing ASEAN’s community-building efforts, maintaining ASEAN Centrality while further deepening ASEAN’s relations with its external partners, and regional developments and international issues of common interest and concern, including developments in the Korean Peninsula, the situation in the South China, transnational crimes such as piracy and armed robbery against ships, and violent extremism and terrorism.
The ACC Meeting, on the other hand, discussed the follow-ups to the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits, which was led by the ASEAN Secretary-General, and considered the outcome documents of the 30th ASEAN Summit that have been endorsed to the Leaders. These documents include an ASEAN declaration recognizing the role of the civil service as a catalyst for achieving the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the reports of the three (3) ASEAN Community Councils. The ACC Meeting also discussed new format in the conduct of the ASEAN Summit and Post Ministerial Conferences with the Dialogue Partners, which will pave the way for an effective and efficient conduct of ASEAN’s meetings with Dialogue Partners.
