DFA Receives First Hybrid Car from Japan

22 MAY 2017 MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The DFA received its first hybrid vehicle from Japan, through the Department of Energy, as part of the Japan Non-Project Grant Aid (NPGA) for the introduction of Japanese Advanced Products and its System (Next Generation Vehicle Package). The NPGA hopes to contribute to the Philippines’ efforts in promoting efficient and environment-friendly alternative fuel vehicles, diversifying fuel supply, and improving air quality.
One (1) unit of 2017 Toyota Prius Hybrid Sedan was transferred to the DFA as a national government agency beneficiary. The vehicle has two or more power sources, i.e gasoline engine and electric motor, more fuel efficient, and with less emission compared to average gasoline powered vehicles.
Japanese Ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawa, DOE officials, DFA Undersecretary Secretary Linglingay Lacanlale, representatives from the National Government Agency beneficiaries and guests from the Toyota Tsusho Corp. were present during the turnover ceremony at the DOE compound in Taguig, City.
Ambassador Ishikawa stated that “in the Philippines, scarcity of energy resources was observed. I’m delighted to see that the NPGA initiative is now moving forward. I see this as a very very good opportunity for the Philippine Government to set the precedent for private sectors to follow”.
Undersecretary Lacanlale said that “the objective of making the hybrid vehicles accessible to as many people should be realized and expressed hope that further development of the project will allow people to buy these type of cars”.
The vehicle is for official use only and operated by a designated DFA driver. Repair and regular maintenance shall be done only by Toyota Motor Philippines. The DFA will ensure that the vehicle undergo periodic maintenance service, and monitor details of its fuel consumption and mileage in a required form provided by DOE. END
