JMSDF Escort Flotilla One: JS Izumo Port Call in Subic Bay

04 June 2017 – The Philippines welcomes the arrival of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force Flotilla One on June 04 in Subic Bay as it embarks on a goodwill visit to the Philippines. JMSDF Escort Flotilla One is composed of the ships JS Izumo and JS Sazanami. The JS Izumo (DD-183) is a 24,000-ton helicopter carrier and is the largest naval vessel in Japan’s fleet for the current period.

The goodwill visit highlights the strong bilateral defense cooperation between the Philippines and Japanese, and represents earnest Japanese support for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief in the region.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will be on hand when JMSDF Escort Flotilla One docks at Alava Pier, and will come on board the JS Izumo upon invitation of the Japanese Government.

After the goodwill visit, JMSDF Escort Flotilla One will depart on June 08 and proceed to the Bay of Bengal to participate in the Malabar Naval Exercise with India and U.S. END
