PH to Hold Grand Celebration of ASEAN’s 50th Anniversary on August 08
03 August 2017 MANILA —The Philippines will host the Grand Celebration of ASEAN’s 50th Anniversary on August 08 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Plenary Hall in Pasay City.
One of the activities lined up during the milestone celebration is the “Tribute to the Founding Fathers of ASEAN,” which will recognize former Deputy Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak of Malaysia, and former Foreign Ministers Adam Malik of Indonesia, Narciso Ramos of the Philippines, S. Rajaratnam of Singapore, and Thanat Khoman of Thailand— also collectively known as the five ASEAN Founding Fathers. The ASEAN Founding Fathers will receive plaques of recognition from ASEAN to be received by their descendants/representatives.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who will award the plaques of recognition on behalf of ASEAN, will also deliver the keynote message at the event.
Video messages of the Leaders of ASEAN Member States will be played during the event.
Also to be recognized during the Grand Celebration are the winners of the ASEAN Biodiversity Heroes Awards, the ASEAN Youth Social Entrepreneurship Awards, and the ASEAN Rice Science and Technology Ambassadors Awards. These modern heroes of ASEAN are champions in the areas of biodiversity protection and conservation, social entrepreneurship, and rice science and technology research and development.
The Cultural Center of the Philippines will put up the cultural show for the event.
The Grand Celebration of ASEAN’s 50th Anniversary will be part of the closing ceremony of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting and Related Meetings to be held on August 02 - 08. END
