20 November 2013 – Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Policy Evan P. Garcia and Slovenian Foreign Minister Karl Viktor Erjavec  agreed to finalize the Philippines-Slovenia Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Political Consultations at the sidelines of the 11th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held on November 11 and 12 in New Delhi.

The agreement provides for the holding of political consultations every two years for regular exchanges of views and enhancement of Philippine and Slovene bilateral relations.  Both officials looked forward to the first Philippines-Slovenia Political Consultations where Undersecretary Garcia will meet with his counterpart.

Undersecretary Garcia also extended the invitation to Minister Erjavec to visit the Philippines as a reciprocal visit to then Secretary Romulo’s official trip to Slovenia in 2008.  The proposed visit of Minister Erjavec would be the first of a Slovene Foreign Minister and the highest visit of a government official from the Republic of Slovenia.

The Philippines and Slovenia formally established diplomatic relations in 1993. END
