06 October 2017 PUERTO PRINCESA - The DFA Regional Consular Office in Puerto Princesa in partnership with Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) upon invitation of the Provincial Public Employment Service Office in Palawan (Provincial PESO) conducted a series of “Handa Ka Na Bang Mag-Abroad?” (HKNBM) Seminars in the Southern Municipalities of Palawan on September 27 to 29.

This activity is part of the Employment Counselling Program of the Provincial Government of Palawan that aims to guide graduating students in making informed decisions as they plan to work locally and overseas.

A total of 773 graduating students from the Western Philippines University – Main Campus in Aborlan, the San Francisco Javier College in Narra, and the Palawan State University campuses in Narra and Brookes Point, Palawan were able to benefit from the seminars. They were oriented on the various services of the participating agencies, on how they can protect themselves from being victimized by illegal recruitment, human trafficking and drug syndicates, and on how they can prepare themselves physically, psychologically and emotionally in facing the many challenges of working overseas.

The HKNBM Education Program for OFWs and Emigrants is a client-focused GAD Program that RCO Puerto Princesa conducts monthly together with its partner agencies for passport applicants aspiring to work abroad. In recognition of its relevance and significance in the prevention of human trafficking and illegal recruitment in Palawan, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Palawan issued Resolution No. 12451 series of 2016 requesting DFA RCO Puerto Princesa and its partner agencies to conduct the HKNBM seminar in all municipalities of the Province.

This Program has so far benefited more than four thousand three hundred (4,300) aspiring OFWs, students, teachers, employees from other government agencies and members of civic groups since RCO Puerto Princesa started it in December 2014. END
