12 October 2017 MANILA - To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of PH-Spain diplomatic relations, DFA, in cooperation with the Spanish Embassy in Manila, hosted a photographic exhibit entitled “Philippines-Spain: Building on Shared Heritage” on October 02 to 06.

The opening ceremony of the exhibit was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, government officials and civil society partners at the DFA lobby on October 02.

In their messages, DFA Undersecretary Linglingay F. Lacanlale, Assistant Secretary Maria Cleofe Natividad and Spanish Ambassador Luis Antonio Castaño Calvo all highlighted the two countries’ shared heritage and their multi-faceted and mutually-beneficial partnership.

The guest speaker, Dr. Rene Escalante, Chairman of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), detailed through events and pronouncements in history the long-standing linkages and cooperation between the two countries.

The exhibit has on display 42 photographs from the photographic library of the Spanish news agency EFE, showcasing some highlights in PH-Spain relations such as exchange of high-level visits, signing of agreements and people-to-people exchanges.

Also on display are the original treaties of friendship signed in 1947 and in 2000, relevant resolutions from both PH and Spanish Congress, and 2017 Friendship Day messages from DFA and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. END
