ASEAN Coordinating Council to Meet in Preparation for the 31st ASEAN Summit
12 November 2017 MANILA - ASEAN Foreign Ministers gather in Manila today to convene the 20th Meeting of the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) and discuss the final preparations for the 31st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits that will be held on 13-14 November 2017 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alan Peter S. Cayetano will host and chair the meeting.
For the 20th ACC, the Ministers will look at the work of ASEAN throughout 2017 and the progress in ASEAN community-building towards the realization of ASEAN Community Vision 2025.
The Ministers are also expected to consider the list of outcome documents that will be for the adoption, notation and issuance of Leaders. Apart from the regular reports and Chairman’s Statements that are to be noted and issued, outcome documents on various important issues that relevant ASEAN sectoral bodies and ASEAN-led mechanisms have considered, pursued and agreed upon will be adopted by Leaders.
The ASEAN Leaders are expected to sign the ASEAN Consensus on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers – a landmark document that further strengthens social protection, access to justice, humane and fair treatment, and access to health services for our people.
Other deliverables that will see fruition include those concerning health, women and youth, anti-terrorism, countering radicalization and violent extremism, anti-trafficking, poverty alleviation, food security, coastal and marine environment, and the pursuit of innovation for ASEAN economies, among others.
The ACC meets twice a year, each prior to the start of the ASEAN Summit. END
