Philippines Takes Top Award at Global South-South Development Expo 2017

01 December 2017 ANTALYA — Philippines won the top award for development solutions during the first global Youth4South Solution Awareness Contest in Antalya, Turkey on November 30.

The contest aimed to promote the South-South Youth Leadership in advancing the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 launched this year. Kenya and Kazakhstan also won 2nd and 3rd Prize, respectively.

Angelo Carlos Roxas of the Silid Aralan, Inc. (SAI), a Non-Profit Organization, represented the Philippines with his video entry on “Improving Academic Performance of Underprivileged Students.” The video aimed to contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) on Good-Quality Education (SDG 4) and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10).

In the framework of the Contest, individual young leaders or youth-led organizations from developing countries are invited to nominate their development solutions addressing one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Development solutions are to be submitted in the format of a short Youtube video of up to 100 seconds.

Out of 33 entries, 17 development solutions that meet the relevance criteria were shortlisted based on the number of votes received on the Youth4South Video Solution Entries Page. The shortlisted development solutions were then reviewed by a selection panel and competed for the three Solution Awareness Trophies, of USD 5,000, USD 2,000, and USD 1,000 for the top first, second, and third solution respectively. Solution Awareness Trophy will be used to cover travel, accommodation, and other relevant costs contributing to the demand-driven South-South knowledge exchange involving the winning youth leader/organization.
