Cambodian Foreign Minister’s Visit Renews Robust Relations with the Philippines
06 December 2017 — His Excellency Prak Sokhonn, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, paid an Official Visit to the Philippines on December 05 to 06 upon the invitation of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano.
During his visit, Minister Sokhonn co-chaired with Secretary Cayetano the 2nd Meeting of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) between the Philippines and Cambodia. In their discussions, Minister Sokhonn and Secretary Cayetano underpinned the two countries’ friendly relations and committed to renew efforts in enhancing cooperation in various areas.
As a testament to their commitment, the Philippines and Cambodia signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Defense Cooperation and the Agreement on Prevention of Looting and Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Property during the visit of Minister Sokhonn.
Minister Sokhonn also called on President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and, among other things, conveyed Prime Minister Hun Sen’s assurance of Cambodia’s continued efforts to boost relations with the Philippines. President Duterte expressed his desire to further cement the two countries’ ties both in the bilateral sphere and in the context of ASEAN.
The visit to the Philippines of Minister Sokhonn, who was accompanied in his trip by thirty-two officials from the government of Cambodia, serves among the highlights in the commemoration this year of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. END
