The Department of Foreign Affairs Office of Migrant Workers Affairs (DFA-OMWA) is sending an additional rapid response team (RRT) to Kuwait tomorrow, 20 February 2018 to augment the efforts of the first RRT team and to provide additional support to the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait before the Kuwaiti government’s amnesty program closes on 22 February 2018.
The additional deployment of six members puts the total number of members for both RRTs at ten. Both teams are expected to wrap up operations by 28 February 2018.
Both teams, together with the Assistance-to-Nationals team from the Embassy, are doubling their efforts in processing travel documents, conducting interviews with the applicants for the amnesty, and responding to appeals for rescue from distressed Filipinos in Kuwait.
The amnesty program of the Kuwaiti government allows undocumented OFWs to process the necessary documents for work without incurring any penalties.
DFA-OMWA and the Embassy aim to assist as many OFWs as possible in availing themselves of the Kuwaiti government’s amnesty program. END
