DFA Undersecretary Enrique Manalo Delivers Lecture at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs
DFA Undersecretary for Policy Enrique Manalo delivers a lecture on the Philippines and ASEAN at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs on 13 April 2018
17 April 2018 OSLO – DFA Undersecretary for Policy Enrique Manalo gave a lecture on the “The Philippines and ASEAN” in a seminar co-organized by the Philippine Embassy in Oslo, the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (Norsk utenrikspolitisk institutt, or NUPI), and the Norwegian Network for Asian Studies of the University of Oslo on 13 April.
Undersecretary Manalo discussed the gains during the Philippine Chairmanship of the ASEAN in 2017, highlighting ASEAN cooperation on climate change, and ways forward for ASEAN. He also presented an overview of the ASEAN-Norway Sectoral Dialogue Cooperation.
Taking off from the Undersecretary’s points on ASEAN and climate change, NUPI Professor Indra Øverland reported on the main findings of the research “Impact of Climate Change on ASEAN International Affairs: Risk and Opportunity Multiplier.” The report was produced by 23 authors, including contributors from all 10 ASEAN member states.
NUPI is a leading community for research and communication about international affairs of relevance for Norway. The Network for Asian Studies of the University of Oslo is a Norwegian research network which promotes studies, research, and information about Asian history, society, culture, politics and the environment.
The seminar was attended by researchers, the academe, members of the diplomatic corps in Oslo, Norway and members of the Philippine Embassy in Oslo headed by Ambassador Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia.
