PH, United Arab Emirates Pursue Cooperation in Sports, and Technical Vocational Education and Training

Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Constancio R. Vingno, Jr. and UAE Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights and International Law Ahmed Al Jarman signed the MoU on Cooperation in Sports, and MoU for Cooperation in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates, respectively at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Policy Enrique A. Manalo and UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Hamad Al Zaabi witnessed the signing.

ABU DHABI 11 May 2018 – The Philippines and the United Arab Emirates committed to cooperate in the areas of sports, and technical vocational education and training with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Sports, and the Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation on Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at the sidelines of the second Philippines - UAE Political Consultations held on 09 May 2018 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation building in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Recognizing the importance of sports cooperation in enhancing diplomatic relations, the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Sports was signed between the Philippines and the UAE. The MoU sets out objectives to cooperate in sports education, sports science, athletic equipment and training, among others. Mechanisms to pursue this cooperation include exchange of visits of sports policymakers, exchange of sports experts, participation in conferences and seminars, organizing mutual sports events, cooperation in sports for the handicapped and women’s sports, and exchange of information and literature pertaining to athletics.   

The Philippines and the UAE also signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation on Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) where the two countries committed to work towards the promotion and cooperation of TVET through compatibility of both TVET systems, recognition of education and training credentials, capacity-building programs, and exchange of visits of vocational training instructors, experts, managers and technical staff. The two sides will also establish a Joint Working Group to establish work programs, and oversee the implementation of the activities under the work programs.

The two agreements were signed by the Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Constancio R. Vingno, Jr. on behalf of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), respectively, while His Excellency Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Jarman, Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights and International Law, signed on behalf of the General Authority of Sports, and the National Qualifications Authority (NQA).

The Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Policy Enrique A. Manalo and the United Arab Emirates’ Ambassador to the Philippines Hamad Al Zaabi witnessed the signing of the agreements. END
