Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola welcomes the latest batch of Filipino workers repatriated from Kuwait

27 May 2018 - The Department of Foreign Affairs today welcomed home the latest batch of 22 overseas Filipino workers to be repatriated from Kuwait.

The 22 are among the more than 600 mostly domestic workers who have sought shelter at the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, according to the DFA Office of Migrant Workers Affairs.

The repatriation of distressed workers in the Embassy shelter was among the conditions that the Philippines laid down prior to the signing of the labor agreement with Kuwait and the lifting of the ban on the deployment of workers to that Gulf state.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola said the DFA provided P5,000.00 in financial assistance to the latest arrivals and shouldered the airfare to their home provinces. She said most of the repatriates are from Mindanao.

The first batch of 19 repatriates arrived from Kuwait on Saturday. More workers will be repatriated in the coming weeks. END
