NO FILIPINOS REPORTED AMONG DEAD, MISSING AFTER CYCLONE HITS OMAN

27 May 2018 - The Department of Foreign Affairs today said it had received no reports of Filipinos among the dead or missing after a powerful storm hit Oman on Saturday.

The DFA said the Philippine Embassy in Muscat continues to monitor the situation in Salalah, Oman’s second largest city, and is in touch with members of the Filipino Community there.

Ambassador Narciso Castañeda said tropical cyclone Mekunu struck Oman and dumped the equivalent of two years worth of rain in a single day, triggering floods. At least three persons died and 30 reported missing in the storm.

Ambassador Castañeda said there are 49,000 Filipinos in Oman, including around 10,000 in Salalah. END
